Church Banners 

I love designing and making stained glass banners for churches; the technique lends itself very well to spectacular, bold, modern designs as well as more traditional ones. 

Below are some of the designs I've done, with details too of those whose patterns are available. I was asked to design two, stained glass patchwork style banners for the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Maughold Church on the Isle of Man. It is a church designed by the famous architect Sir Gilbert Scott, quite early in his career, so extra sensitivity to the interior was called for. I needed to research St Maughold carefully (not a Saint I'd come across before) to see what to include in his banner, before thinking about what elements to have on the Our Lady one.  

I haven't been able, yet, to get a clear photo of the whole of each banners - they were taller than the living room!) so here are details from each:

A banner for a local folk group, based on a logo by Julia Brown, & a new cross design

                   Fire, Water, Air and Earth

This piece of work consists of five inter-related panels,
     each roughly 15ft x 2ft, commissioned by Shirley Baptist Church
     in Southampton, to hang at the front of their building.
     I've written about it in my book 'Showpieces'.

Full-size patterns (drawn onto dressmakers' tracing paper)
are available to make two different versions of this design.

Pattern A
Set of five banners, each measuring 15ft 6in by 2ft wide.

Single banner measuring 10ft high by
6ft 6in wide, incorporating all the design elements from the large set of banners

 Pangshanger Church Banners

 
     These four banners were commissioned by Panshanger Church in Welwyn Garden City; the banners were designed and made to the church's specifications in early 2003.
Each banner is 7ft x 4ft.
