Church Banners
I love designing and making stained glass banners for churches; the technique lends itself very well to spectacular, bold, modern designs as well as more traditional ones. Below are some of the designs I've done, with details too of those whose patterns are available. If you'd like to order any design, talk to me about possible banner designs for your church - whether you just want a design to make up yourself, or me to stitch them too - send me an e-mail at thelawthers@ntlworld.com My latest designs:I was asked to design two, stained glass patchwork style banners for the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Maughold Church on the Isle of Man. It is a church designed by the famous architect Sir Gilbert Scott, quite early in his career, so extra sensitivity to the interior was called for. I needed to research St Maughold carefully (not a Saint I'd come across before) to see what to include in his banner, before thinking about what elements to have on the Our Lady one. I haven't been able, yet, to get a clear photo of the whole of each banners - they were taller than the living room!) so here are details from each:
and I also designed another, smaller banner for a local church - though I didn't stitch it:
